WEEKLY DIG: SWERVEDRIVER - DEEP WOUND

Well, its 2013 and there is a new song from 90's shoegaze demi-gods, Swervedriver. I couldn't have asked for a better way to end out the year. This is the first piece of newly record music in over 15 years. Deep Wound is the first single off their new 7 inch. The single also features a remix of the song titled "Dub Wound" done by Mark Gardener of the british shoegaze band Rise.

If you read this site frequently you'll know that I have a tendency to speak about this band whenever possible. At first I wasn't sure if this would be more in the realm of Adam Franklins solo records, however it's not. This is very much Swervedriver in their finest. Deep Wound sums up the bands hazy shoegaze sound in a nutshell and proves that the band still has it after all of these years.

According to a press release there will be a new album coming out in 2014. Deep Wound is available for download via bandcamp and iTunes. A a limited amount of 7inches were pressed for their Australian leg of the tour via Tym Records. However, those copies have since sold out, but if you're lucky probably find a copy online.

7 QUESTIONS WITH EVAN WEISS (INTO IT OVER IT, SAOTW, PET SYMMETRY, T/T/T)

I met Evan a over a year ago when we did the Glamour Kills tour with him. At that time he was doing his thing on acoustic, but since then Into It Over It has done some full band tours. Always loved his records and his guitar playing, very intricate and precise. Evan and I both have custom telecaster handmade by my good friend Chris at JR Custom Guitars. Depends on which band we are talking about! For IIOI / SAOTW, I use two custom "Telecaster" guitars through a modded Sovtek Mig100 and ported Ampeg V2 guitar cab. There is a similar setup for Josh who also plays in IIOI, with a Sovtek Mig100B and second ported V2. I only use a tuner. These are setups that are unique but sound outrageous. QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE - TROY VAN LEEUWIN'S RIG RUNDOWN

Premier Guitar just recently put together a Rig Rundown of Troy Van Leeuwen's guitar rig. Troy is a huge part of their sound a very influential guitarist. He's one of my personal favorites. His unique style has been a very integral part of the band's sound since he joined the band. Not only does he play guitar but he also uses a lapsteel in a non traditional sense for noises and other effects, as well as percussion. Unlike Troy, Josh Homme is never one to publicly talk about what he uses on stage. Troy's rig consists of three main guitars - an Echopark T- style, his signature Fender Jazzmaster with a Mastery Bridge, and a Burns 12 string (not shown.) He plays through two Vox AC30s, a combo and a head driving Vox and Marshall cabs. I did this interview via email with Dan a few years back now for an old zine I was doing. Needless to say it was never published. I've managed to take out a couple of questions that were outdated. What is posted below are the more relative parts of the interview.
